National Homemade Bread Day

Thankfully I read Crooked Moon Mama‘s blog because if I didn’t I wouldn’t have know that today is National Homemade Bread Day*. This is definitely our kind of holiday so to celebrate I made Whole Wheat Soda Bread with Millet and Currants from The Veganomicon (click on that link and it will take you to the recipe).

National Homemade Bread Day is always on November 17th which should make my friend Jocelyn happy because today is also her birthday – what a great Day with which to share your birthday!

I think it is a testament to this recipe that at some point during the process I was: talking on the phone with my sister, medications dealing with a clingy crying baby, making soup, feeding the clingy, crying baby and talking to our lunch guests while trying to make this bread and it still turned out great (I was worried it wouldn’t). I doubled the recipe to make two loaves in case we ate it all at lunch – I didn’t want to have to tell the Mister we had made Soda Bread and saved none for him – I’m pretty sure that’s grounds for divorce.

*This holiday may only pertain to the Nation next door but I’m sure they don’t mind sharing.
