My name is Melanie and yes, pharmacy I like to think that I’m pretty mellow.
I started blogging 17-years ago in the good old Diaryland days but never thought it would lead to future jobs. It is very nice that it did. Of course, patient having gone to school to study English Literature and then Journalism also plays a big part in that.
There are big gaps of time on this blog where life got busy.
I had one daughter, and then another, and then another.
We completely changed our diet which was a big deal for us. We bought one house, did some work on it, lived in it for five years and then bought another. I had a really hard time after daughter #3 was born and hid away for a while.
After 7-years of non-stop nursing/pregnancy/dealing with infants my baby brain seemed to finally calming down. I even started working again. And then in December 2015 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. Stage 4 means that it has metastasized and there is no cure. The median life expectancy for someone with metastatic breast cancer is 3 years (although I am hearing from women who are living longer). The most we can hope for is to push it into ‘chronic disease’ territory and try and stay as healthy as we can while hoping and praying for a cure. These days I talk/write about my cancer a lot. It is how I process.
I read a lot of books. I read a lot of books to my girls. I talk about books a lot.
