Here is my lovely black & white kitchen linoleum (bathroom too but I didn’t bother with photos of that yet – still lots of work to be done). Moira was running around the house saying “I like this! I like this!” Good to know we have the two-year old stamp of approval. ( Read more )
} I’m now 25 weeks pregnant. 15 weeks to go. I promise I will start thinking about you Little Miss Sprig once we have moved into our new house.
} We move in less than two weeks.
} Our house is going to be awesome. The Mister and I (heavy emphasis on The Mister) refinished the hardwood floors last weekend. The floors deserve a post for themselves but this sums it up for now:
} Tomorrow my black and white kitchen floor is being installed. Who knew flooring could make one so happy?
} To say Moira is excited about her purple room is a bit of an understatement:
But there is a good chance I’m going to be talking about my house for a while so bear with me.
Since I plan on painting the main floor the same colour – most likely white (or a very light shade of something) – one thing I would like to do is wallpaper this wall:
Except, you know, not with fake bricks – with something to give the entrance some pizzaz (and to hide grubby finger prints while people lean on the wall to take off their shoes – I’m nothing if not practical at times). There are some really fabulous wallpapers out there these days. I just found out about Studio Nommo on decor8 which makes some really quirky (and crazy expensive) wallpaper. Although maybe a wall decal like this:
Would be a cheerful way to welcome people into our home.
My sister has been sending me links to vintage wallpaper sites but they are also really expensive and probably don’t have the washability that I am looking for.
What are your thoughts on wallpaper? Do you have some in your home or are you in the No Wallpaper Ever camp! (I used to be but have since changed my mind – at least on a small scale.) What about wall decals?
My friend Chris (he who sends the fabulous links and designed my logo) sent this to me the other day. I already posted about Retro Renovations recently but here is a video done by the blog creator and Etsy Labs talking about Mid-Century Modest.
I’m pretty much in love with this idea right now – loving the house you’re in and making it work for you. I won’t lie, I love looking through home decor magazines (at the library) but they are all about tearing down walls and finding the perfect this and that which always comes with a capital C cost. I’m not in the design world and even I know that Mid-Century Modern is super popular right now but who can afford a living room full of Eames Chairs or what have you? And to be honest – a lot of that furniture isn’t terribly comfortable and with two small children, a small space and a large husband what we all want is a space we can be comfortable in. Also, having one style in a home seems pretty boring to me and as much as I love all-things retro I’m not interested in living in a time capsule.
Learning that being 9-months pregnant is NOT a good time to do anything technical to your blog.
Well-mannered frivolity:
I think of this as my little online space to write about things that are important to me. Lately that list includes: little girls (about to have #2), literature, first-time home ownership, crafting and my love of Canadianna.
